Honor guard bringing flag and urn into shelter at the beginning of the ceremony.

The ceremony began with a rifle salute and taps from the hill behind the shelter.

The honor guard unfolded the American flag.

They then refolded the flag into the traditional "three-cornered hat" from Revolutionary War times.

The NCOIC (Non-Commissioned Officer In Charge) then gave the folded flag
to Linda and me for presentation to Mary. Linda was Paul's counselor for many years.

"This flag is presented on behalf of a grateful nation and the United States Army
as a token of appreciation for your loved one's honorable and faithful service."

I said a few words about my long friendship with Paul,
starting in 2005 when we first joined the PTSD group.
We sat next to each other almost every Wednesday for the next four years.

Paul's son Andrew talked about family life and growing up..

Daughter Stephanie thanked everyone for their support
and for honoring Paul at the memorial service.

Eight members of Paul's group attended the memorial.
From left are Dan, Karl, Tom, Dave, Ross, Jim, Rich and Larry.
